Sandy Koepke Interior Design was a winner in the first ever Houzz “Best of Remodeling” awards, announced on March 18th, 2012. The Los Angeles-based design firm’s outdoor room renovation won in the “Design” category, in a selection process by the website’s 1.2 million members. Photos of the design firm’s backyard renovation for a Los Angeles residence were among the most viewed images on the site, earning the firm the award. The outdoor room is among 170,000 professional photos uploaded to the site by more than 65,000 architects and designers around the world.
Houzz.com is the leading online platform for home remodeling and features the largest residential design database in the world. The site provides inspiration and information to active remodelers. Home renovators access images of design ideas they like and can save them into a project-planning file. The site also connects designers and architects with homeowners renovating or building a house.
The outdoor room created by Sandy Koepke Interior Design that was so popular with Houzz members transformed a rarely used back patio into an outdoor living area that suits the homeowners’ love of entertaining and also complements the architecture of their late-1920s style home. A large-scale pergola was installed and now drips with flowering vines to shade a patio filled with deep comfortable seating by Brown Jordan, upholstered in outdoor fabrics by Perennials and Donghia. Twinkling layers of vintage lighting and masses of succulents in California pottery and salvaged containers add charm and color.
Sandy Koepke, principal of the firm, designed the space, along with the adjoining garden. Koepke’s work has been featured in national shelter magazines, design books and on HGTV.
